Make Money Online Using Your Model Trains
By RonPare
One hundred dollars
My online adventures have taken me to many online schemes. You know the line "Get rich beyond your wildest dreams, making money online ?" I have have seen many if not all in the past four years. Still, I keep my eyes open to new techniques and optimizations to help make money online. My goal for this article is to get you $100 per month. This is not to say you can't get more, its just enough to get a check each month from Google. Some may not be able to put in the time or effort, but you will make at least $100 out of this from Google.
There are some introductory points to understand first, Most people that try to earn money online, do not. The reason for this is fairly simple to see it is hard, patience is one of life's most elusive traits. Many "online money making opportunities" fail to tell this simple point, making money online isn't easy.
So whats my story
I started trying to make money on the internet four years ago. Where I started blogging with Blogger.com. Writing about my modeling adventures is a great subject to use. As many "Jobs" you have in the train room could be all articles or blog posts online.
After receiving fairly big response (bigger then I had known prior) I decided to take things further. I bought a domain name, one thats name matched the what I was doing at the time. Traffic continued to grow and revenue was creeping at a whopping 1-10 cents per day, not very impressive I know.
I read all I could find at the time and decided to move on to a full fledged website and start building an email list for my blog. I had traffic, people commenting and the possibility was nurturing a community social network, what could go wrong?.
First $100 Adsense payout
I was sure I had the best way to make money online for free
That became the plan and I dove in. I started with the email list, using feedburner, another Google product I placed a subscribe by email widget on the blog and continued to post. As for the website, hindsight is 100% indeed. I didn't pick the right website software and spent three years trying to configure repair and update it. The Google Adsense money did increase to 5-30 cents per day on my blog and website and feedburner started bring in money each time I posted starting with a few cents, but as the subscribers joined (now 300) that increased to $3-20 per post.
I wrote many articles and blog posts the past four years and in total I think I made $400. Nothing in the first year, as Adsense requires you reach $100 before they cut you a check. My first check arrived 17 months after I started. The websites have brought in many sponsored products that don't hold a tangible payback. So I can't really report on the value, suffice to say that sponsored products made it more desirable then a few cents per day.
I have started making more money online with a few different services that I'd like to share with you, and hopefully teach you how to make money online. My revenue has increased and over the next few months I am going to show you how I do it, how you can do it yourself and most importantly do it much quicker then I did. With motivation and creativity on your side we will get you $100 per month in as little as six months.
$200 payout from Adsense
So what do we do now
So before I start showing my current earnings to you, I want you to get started setting up your online presence.
- Get a Google login, this means signing up for Gmail but you don't Need to use the email if you already have one, we do however need it to login to Feedburner, Adsense, Analytics, Blogger and a number of other products.
After you have your gmail account we can move on to the next series of steps.
Two weeks in and these are my stats

- 7 Reasons To Use Feedburner
What comes to mind when you hear of a blog being burned? And if your thinking in the literal sense, your wrong(concerning what I'm talking about). It would be horrible if my computer exploded and my blog was...
Our Personal Network
One product will not do it for you. You could be Dave Frary himself and still not make a dime online. We need to spread things out a bit and link these sources together. That's what the Google search engine is looking for and Google send us people and money so this is important, and remember the Google login is needed even if you use another blog software like wordpress.
- Blogger - using your Gmail account details login and start your blog. Pick a name that represents your interests, maybe your Railroads name. Pick a design of you choice and blog about what your doing today. Use it as a journal of your interests and post at least once per week. Don't add too much in terms of Widgets to your blog just yet.
- WordPress.com - Another well known blogging software
- Adsense - Using your Gmail login again, apply for Adsense. It could take some time to be accepted so get it out of the way now. If you need to add a website use the Blog address for this as it is a Google product they will like it more that way.
- Amazon - This process may take a few days it is worth it. Plus you can be paid in Amazon Gift Cards in $10 increments, Cool.
- HubPages - Sign up to Hubpages it is very easy to do. I will explain much more on this later. For now sign up and fill in your profile.
- Feedburner - Again using your Gmail account. Join the account to Blogspot and Adsense.
- SheToldMe - Apply for an account and wait for the Admin to accept your application. She checks each login for the sake of quality. This further proves the sites worth.
- RedGage
Spend some time now filling out profiles and About Me's. Fill in as much or as little as you wish. This information will be the first thing visitors look at to find out more about you and your work. Don't loose a return visitor by not being diligent in filling out all the form entries.
So what did I "do right" to finally make money online
I hit the $100 Google Adsense requirement exactly 1 year and 5 months after publishing my first Blog post. Three months later I made another $100. Still something was missing, my traffic wasn't consistently bringing in clicks. My articles and blog posts lacked something.
Web hosting
- Hostgator - Wordpress hosting from only $3.95 a month. I have used Hostgator as my host for around six years. They are very reputable and employ many people that are more the willing to help a newb.
Three weeks in Hubpages topped as revenue source
Making money writing at hubpages
So how do I make money with HubPages ? First you need to sign-up and write a few articles and publish them. HubPages then using its pre-configured layout, places advertisements in your articles. Those ad impressions are then divided between you and HubPages on a ratio of 60/40. Sixty percent of the traffic to you forty percent to them.
Write 20 articles for HubPages and see how much you can earn in three months. Learn with the other Hubbers how online content should be created. Immediately draw traffic and consistently receive an income online.
You need a topic that you can get about 500 words out of.your idea. I write about my Railroad and everything that happens around it. As I will be building for years I will have much content to add. But so can you write about your RR or cooking, bike riding, kids, buying a house whatever you want.
The Language of the internet becomes easier to see as you read Hubs like this one here. Add to that the way your skills are graded with HubPages own set of metrics called a hubscore. Find that subject the your good at and write those 20 hubs. So how do I make money with my Railroad ?
Making money blogging
Yes, you can make money blogging as well. For the past four years this has been my primary source of online revenue. There are a few ways we can make money and the use of these techniques will improve the performance of HubPage articles through linking, but please no duplicate postings this is a big no-no.
To make money from your blog we need to have a plan as to what we are going to use to make the most of our efforts.
- Write blog posts with adsense advertisements work for generic subjects.
- Posting about retail products are an opportunity to use an Amazon ad. My Amazon ad sold an airbrush in the first week, giving me a $5 return, not bad.
