Introduction and thoughts

Finally, the next book in the continuing adventures of the boy who could. Upon finishing last book I felt a bit odd. I felt like a good friend was gone on vacation without me. Lost dare I say it ? I have to say though having rarely ever experiencing a great sequel I waited like a little school boy for book two in the saga would arrive, from Amazon.

Harry, this time finds himself on the case of the Chamber of Secrets while pursuing another year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. As in the Philosopher's Stone J.K. Rowling digs into both Harry's fortitude for hard times and the promise of salvation almost immediately. The Plot is fluid in that it draws you forward along the stories twists and turns. What if you have not read book one. I am positive that you will be able to read this book as if it was the first. The story is so richly laid out that you always feel like someone is sharing the past with you. I just cannot help to think how much my kids will like when they get old enough to read the Harry Potter books. Because I am positive they will be Griffondors, theres no doubt.

The Chamber of Secrets

In book two of the Harry Potter series we find Harry locked in his room, his owl is not allowed out of its cage and he gets his food from a hole in the door. On Harry's birthday, Mr Dursley's ignores it and invites business client to dinner, a creature called a house elf, named Dobby appears with warnings about Harry's intentions to go back to Hogwartz. Just when all looks dreadful, couldn't be any worse. Harry gets locked in his room, bars on his windows. That night, a flying car pulls up casually to Harry's window and the adventure begins.

Dobby’s warning fresh in his mind, Harry wastes no time sharing this info with his two best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. With no apparent fear that danger awaits them they plunge into the clues that are cleverly laid out before them.

In school the mystery builds with writing on a wall stating the chamber is open, the heir of Slytherin is present and a cat is hung petrified from a rope. It is up to Harry and his friends to discover all the clues before someone gets killed. The story builds to the very last battle where a door can only be opened by someone who speaks snake, Harry, and a chamber that holds he who must not be named and Ginney Weasley and a giant Basilisk that petrifies if you look into its eyes.

Conclusion

I have come to expect a plot twist that really shakes things up with J.K. Rowling. And book two doesn't disappoint. The extreme nature of this twist makes me warn against children under 8 reading this book. It just gets that good, and I am sure a nightmare might be in store for the younger ones. This is not to say moral fiber is not from row center in the Harry Potter books. Harry exemplifies Dedication, self sacrifice and honor. And for adult, the experience of traveling Harry's long tale will bring all the longing a good book about childhood could be.
