Airbrush review, Badger 360 dual action
69The Introduction
When taking on this review I wondered to myself, what made this brush a "360". For some reason it just struck me odd. So upon arriving I was a bit over curious when I opened the package, and now feel a bit foolish I have to admit. For the brush appeared to have the ability to become a gravity fed system and with a turn of the bowl transform to a side or bottom feed configuration. You might say this is an all in one. I prefer to think it is an opportunity to try them all to provide you a preference.
So what about this Badger brush
The Badger 360 airbrush is solidly built with a smooth feel. Upon using the brush under air I found its feel to be quite comfortable. The rotating shaft is constructed so that it won't slip after it is positioned. Once you find a preferred position I wonder if you'll ever find a need to change it. Disassembly was easy enough and a few things I notice were the trigger assembly was a bit of a challenge, the two parts need to be arranged properly in order to work. Which was not immediately obvious to re-assemble.
Single and Dual action Airbrushes
Ok. So what's the big difference between single and dual action airbrushes. Single action airbrushes control paint flow with a dial on the back of the brush. Dual controls paint flow on the trigger. Dual action brushes are by default a better choice, more expensive and harder to master. The single action airbrush is a very good tool for single colour applications. It may be noted that many brushes including this one can be set, like a single action brush to spray at the default position, making for less finger cramping.
My conclusions on this Airbrush system
As I see it this Badger airbrush is suitable for experienced airbrush artists, however I have a feeling this may be the perfect entry level brush. Its ability to rotate the cup into three different style configurations gives the user the ultimate in a first time experience. What better way to "try it out" then by the ability to find what you actually are comfortable with and like. So this could be considered an entry level brush, one you pass on to the Club for modelers to learn on for years to come.
